We start every live with a prayer and end it with a punch. Here is what came out of the Hard Punching stream on October 14 from St. Cloud, MN.
1. Most people think in 30 seconds. Fights go 12 rounds.
Everybody pitches the one-punch knockout. In real life you go the distance, and it is exhausting. The goal is perfect efficiency. You never fully get there, but you keep chasing it. That is how you last 12 rounds.
2. Check yourself for habits.
Mid-warm-up I caught myself repeating the same combination. As a boxer, the moment your opponent repeats, you eat them alive. So I said it out loud: always check that you are not doing habitual things. It works the same in business and in life.
3. Punch like a whip.
Find the path of least resistance, the most efficient way to throw the punch. Stay loose. When you want power, you crack the whip. It is your choice and it depends on the moment. The motion is where it is at, like casting a fly rod.
4. Gear fail of the week.
My gloves are two weeks old and the Velcro is already giving out. They cost about $120. I have gone through four or five pairs this summer, so a full equipment review is coming.
5. Want to, not have to.
Training because you want to takes the stress and anxiety away. After 20 years the stuff that matters is not the stuff you can see. Some lessons you just have to earn on your own.
Your turn: what habit did you catch yourself repeating this week? Tell me in the comments.
We stream live Monday through Saturday at 5:00 PM Central on YouTube at @JonathonGuyerBoxing. Join the list below and I will send you what the gym teaches: technique, discipline and faith, with no selling. God bless, Jonathon
